Root´s of Cocollections
Root´s of Cocollections  By Tissa Fontaneda

I first fell in love with accessories as a teenager, sitting in the dining room of a luxury hotel in southern Italy, watching all those sophisticated, tanned women, swanning around in their beautiful summer outfits. I could feel the softness of their leather bags only by looking at them, while some of the necklaces they wore reminded me of far away and exotic places. More than a just fashion accessory or a brand, those personal touches accentuated the unique personality of each woman wearing them.

What else does luxury really mean, after all?

Once I had graduated from university, I moved to Paris where I began to work as an assistant to creative director Rosemarie Le Gallais at Daniel Swarovski – Haute Couture fashion accessories. What better place to learn and form my ideas about luxury bags and fashion jewellery.
Not only were Madame Le Gallais’ and Hervé Legers’ creations accentuating the personality of the women wearing them. They also reflected the unique creativity of the designers.
The world of “haute couture” handbags has almost disappeared since, but I feel very fortunate and glad to have had the chance to get a taste of it first hand!
I missed Rosemarie’s wonderful taste and elegant manners during the years to come as well as our daily "tea-time break", ... something totally unusual and surrealistic in a hard driven fashion-group-owned company!... the tea-breaks were brainstorming sessions for the whole team to discuss new designs and other important matters, and only to be interrupted by a call from Bergdorf Goodman or Saks Fifth Avenue.

Turning thirty, I decided to learn Spanish and landed a position in Spain to run the prototype development department at the Spanish Luxury Fashion House Loewe, where I was in charge of collections such as Thierry Mugler and Cartier handbags ,then produced in Loewe’s Madrid based factory.

The clanking sound of Swarovski crystals were thus replaced by the buzz of sewing machines, and instead of whiffs of French perfume, I was enveloped in the smell of glue and leather. But in this austere, masculine factory ambience, some of the greatest European artisans taught me as much about handbag manufacturing as I could ever learn.
I still remember the “birth” of a beautiful English brand called Connolly as one of my most enriching professional experiences during those early years in Spain.
When Loewe became part of the LVMH group, I was invited to develop belts, gloves, fashion jewelry and shoe collections designed, during several seasons, by Narciso Rodriguez.

In 2003 I made up my mind to launch my own accessories line together with a young Spanish designer called David Sanz.
David’s perfectionism, talent, outstanding sense of taste and pure shapes, represent an ideal complement to my passion for high level leather and elegant accessories, intended to attract the independent woman, looking for quality with a twist.

Enjoy!
